Offense
Updated October 2025
God rains on the just and the unjust alike. He reigns over every soul, whether they bow or curse. Nothing in all creation can wrench me from His hand, and that grip is the same for every child He claims. When my daughters tug at my sleeve and ask for bread, I give them the whole loaf, because that is how my Abba treats me. My walk is with Him alone.
Still, I wrestle with how to speak truth without lighting fuses .Have you not heard or said “offense taken”? My children have. I understood a thing at that point. I knew that my original wisdom principle was a simple: offense belongs to the one who takes it. Truth lands like a stone in still water. Ripples are not the stone’s fault.
Years ago I coined another rule for living: Don’t let your day create your mind. Let your mind create your day. Start with Scripture, end with Scripture, and the hours in between bend to the Word instead of bending it.
I am only a servant. Anyone who has ever been served knows not every waiter is polished; some spill the soup, yet the Master still sends them to the table. If my words ever scald, forgive me. Paul said it is better to skip the steak than to stumble a brother. I would rather fast than feast on offense.
So I pray my sentences echo The Sentence, the living Word, and never manufacture stumbling blocks. When offense does appear, I refuse to pocket it. I leave it on the ground where it fell, because the ground belongs to the One who rains on us all.
