Gal 5:16 - But I say, Live by the spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.
The church is teaching that God knew us when He made us and that he loves us and put in us the desires within. They are proclaiming that we can live our lives pursuing the desires of our heart, claiming that God put in us every thought we have. Just as the church in the time of Christ was represented as the fig tree, giving the impression of fruitfulness, but in truth upon inspection there was no spiritual fruit. Christ cursed the fig tree for its deception and attacked the church for becoming a den of thieves. I can not argue with the church, I can not say that God is or is not speaking through the church, I can only reflect inward and read the Word for myself. And when I do that I simply can not believe that God wants us to pursue every desire of our heart, unless our hearts desire is to pursue God.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh has desires that are opposed to the Spirit, and the Spirit has desires that are opposed to the flesh, for these are in opposition to each other, so that you cannot do what you want.
The Word is very clear on what is good and what is not. Its also very clear that we are not perfect and we will make many mistakes. Its also clear that we must work daily to fix our hearts upon God and His Law, it refers to this as washing our minds with the water of the Word. Water is the most important substance for life. Without water we die within three days. Bacteria grows in water, cells require water, blood is made from water. Without water daily we die, and without the Word daily we pursue fleshly desires and oppose our spirit. The church can declare flesh because it justifies its own desires but the Word never will. The Word will tell us the truth, and nothing but the truth. Do you have an appetite for sin or for the Word? Pursue your desires and fulfill the flesh and have your best life now, or pursue the Word and have your best spirit now.
